In Luke 13 Jesus teaches in parable form. In the parable, the fig tree symbolizes Israel or perhaps the world, the gardner symbolizes Jesus, a man symbolizes God. The parable might be a lesson to repent of sin or it might be a foreshadow of Jesus giving his life for peoples sin.

love thy enemy
february 24, 2019
Love your enemy. Ask for blessings for the person who makes it difficult for you. Jesus is clear. Do good and expect nothing in return. You will be children of God. Be merciful, do not judge, do not condem. Forgive and be forgiven. This is the gospel. Recall the Lord’s prayer that says, “Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.” How can we do this? Call on Christ for help.
6th Sunday after Epiphany
February 17, 2019
Luke’s version of the Beatitudes. Think about those who are rich, those who are poor, those who are hungry, and those who are full, those who weep and those who are persecuted. Is this a call to action, each of us being the hands, feet and heart of Jesus, looking after those in need? Make the gospel real in the lives of those around us.
5th Sunday after Epiphany
February 9, 2019
Jesus fills Peter’s boat with fish after a long night of unsuccessful fishing. Jesus calls Peter and the other fishermen to follow him and help him “catch people”. How does this apply in our lives? Jesus looks at each of us and asks us to cast our own nets to find others.
January 26, 2019
Baptism in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost means God is actively involved in your life. God calls us to do his work. Maybe just a smile. Maybe the power to forgive others. Maybe taking the first step to say sorry. All to create community, family and brothers and sisters in Christ.
First sunday after christmas

Mary and Joseph lose 12 year old Jesus in Jerusalem during Passover. They search for three days and find Jesus who says, “I’m right here.” Are you searching for Jesus? Is he saying to you “I’m right here”? Is Jesus waiting for you, just as he waited for his parents in the temple? Perhaps this is the start of Jesus’ recognition of his divine purpose. What do you think?

From God, we have the gift of giving. In giving, we actually receive. God provides the resources and will to give. God displays a character of giving when Adam and Eve receive the Garden of Eden and a second chance. He gives Abraham and Sarah a child. God gives freedom through Moses. He gives the gift of communion. God gives forgiveness through his son, Jesus. We model God’s generosity when we give through our vocations, talents, abilities, prayer, study, invitation, service and worship.
November 11, 2018
Through other people Jesus helps us grow beyond ourself. He gives us the gift of the Holy Spirit leading and enabling us to reach out to other people. When we connect with others, we invite, we interact and we serve. Jesus modeled service by washing the feet of others. By serving others, we serve God.

What does it mean to be disciples of Jesus? Disciples serve, give themseleves to God in everyday life. Disciples pray as an everyday, ongoing conversation expressing joy, concern, fear, praise, thanksgiving, requests for strength and clarity. There’s no check list for prayer, no one way of how or when to pray, nor posture for prayer. But, know that we can pray no matter what.
October 14, 2018
God calls us by name. We are all called. Some of us know the calling. Others still wonder. We pray for guidance through experiences or words from friends, neighbors or even strangers. Let us remember, we are the light of the world. God calls us to show others the goodness of God.

Never doubt the love of God. For long before you were aware of it, God knew you. He had already chosen you to be part of his family, a child of God. So do not doubt the love of God, for if God is with us, we have nothing to fear.
